Pilar Festival

Every October, for ten days, the capital of the Ebro River reveals its most joyful, imaginative, and colorful side, and above all, lives up to its well-deserved reputation as a welcoming city. More than 500 cultural and recreational events ensure that young and old, locals and visitors alike, can enjoy the festivities and culture. Did you know that 90% of the events are free and take place outdoors? The celebrations begin with a parade of peñas (local social clubs) heading to the opening proclamation in Plaza del Pilar. The squares of the Old Town transform into stages hosting theater, circus, dance and comedy, percussion, clowns, mime, and much more. Large concerts are held in Plaza del Pilar, alongside a stage specially reserved for showcasing Aragonese folklore. Crafts take to the streets in the form of a fair in Plaza de Los Sitios. There are also dedicated spaces for children to enjoy traveling theater performances, the Río y Juego (River and Play) children's area, and the Parque de las Marionetas (Puppet Park). The José Antonio Labordeta Park brings music and color to its fountains, offering a wonderful spectacle every evening. The Giants and Big-Heads Parade brightens the streets with its musical processions and gets children running with its songs. The "Tragachicos" (a giant slide) travels to various parts of the city, serving as a fun slide for the little ones. And the fairs fill the afternoons with fun, with their rides, lights, and raffles… Cotton candy, caramel apples, hot chocolate with churros and porras (a type of fried dough), and baked potatoes are all must-haves!
